Why Seeing a Board-Certified Reproductive Acupuncturist Matters

You may be curious, what’s the difference between an acupuncturist and a Board-Certified Reproductive Acupuncturist?

Naomi Skoglund made the commitment to go through the training and certification process with The American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM) this year and is now a board certified reproductive acupuncturist. ABORM is an international organization pioneering best practices in acupuncture and Eastern reproductive medicine. ABORM recognizes the need for a certification to assure that practitioners who are treating patients with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the field of Reproductive Health are doing so with an advanced knowledge in integrative evidence-based care, and to allow practitioners to demonstrate their knowledge through the process of voluntary examination. (Note: We at Six Branches want to acknowledge that the word Oriental is still used widely in our profession, but we are working to change that!)

So what makes ABORM members different?

ABORM members:

  • have demonstrated competency in the treatment of infertility by passing a rigorous examination which tests their knowledge of both Western and TCM reproductive medicine for both men and women.

  • stay current with research related to acupuncture and herbal medicine as it relates to the treatment of infertility.

  • are often actively engaged in clinical research as it relates to TCM and infertility.

  • are often involved in the teaching and training of other acupuncturists who treat patients with fertility challenges (Naomi, Meaghan and Elaine work very closely and there is always collaboration happening at Six Branches Acupuncture!)

  • must maintain continuing education requirements annually

You can be assured that the Six Branches Family Acupuncture team has advanced knowledge and experience in supporting you with your fertility journey. Naomi is committed to not only her continuous learning but also in collaborating with the team to make sure everyone is getting the best care.
